Enterprises and service providers worldwide are struggling to deal with mounting datacenter costs. For those paying the bills, the prevailing trends resemble a perfect storm.

Server count continues to grow at the relatively high rate of ten percent per year as organizations seek to further automate business processes and increasingly embrace compute-intensive, multi-tier Web application architectures to do so;
