Spectral DSC? A New Simultaneous Technique For Pharmaceutical Polymorph Characterization
SPECTRAL DSC is a simultaneous measurement technique comprising of either a Raman or Near Infrared Spectrometer coupled to a Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) that will yield vibrational spectra on materials that are undergoing a thermally induced solid phase transition , e.g. changing from one polymorphic form to another. The DSC will give energy information that on its own may not fully characterize the transition. Vibrational spectroscopy (IR, NIR & Raman) is a very sensitive technique for distinguishing one polymorphic form from another. In addition, chemometrics models can be developed to quantify the relative amounts of different polymorphs in a material.
